Decode the Plot
Letterboxd calls it "confusing but rewatchable." That's the point. Here are threads to pull on your second watch.
Theory Wall
The Loop
Is the murder sequence a single night, or a programmed repetition? Watch for wardrobe and dialogue echoes across "different" scenes.
Who's dosing whom?
The professor believes he's running the experiment. By midpoint, the subject may be him. Track who offers the glass.
Starlet as asset
Hollywood access isn't accidental — the starlet's studio ties may be the CIA's entry point into the professor's research.
Malibu as trap
The hotel isn't a getaway; it's a controlled environment. Geography shrinks as the trip deepens — classic MK-Ultra containment.
Rewatch Checklist
- First line of dialogue vs. last — do they match?
- Background radio/news clips — real 1960 events or planted?
- Color grading shifts — sober vs. dosed scenes
- Which character knows the layout of the hotel before arrival?
